Twilight (100-word
drabble)
Stepping to the edge, he drank in the expanse. Through the fading light and mist he saw rocky ledges giving way to rolling hills and fields covered with tall grasses that tickled your nose. How many times had he come here? He’d never know. It took him longer than it did before—and even then his knees had protested. Things had changed and life moved forward. He hadn’t. Unfulfilled promises chased him by day and tormented his nights. But even as the fire screamed down from the skies, he couldn’t let go. Alone to the end and full of regrets.
