What if?

I know I haven't had the chance to do my reviews of any episodes since "Adrift" and I will get to it, I promise. But MGM posted a very interesting question (series of questions) as part of this week's post.

What if McKay hadn't interfered in the Sheppard vs. Sheppard showdown in "Doppelganger?" Who would have won the fight and why? What if it was Teyla, Ronan, Carter or Keller fighting their evil selves? Who would win and why?

I guess my initial thought is that Rodney would not have not interfered (if that makes sense). For as scared as he gets, Rodney is one brave soul and will do what needs to be done. So I guess, I can't picture him not going in to save Sheppard. It's just something they do--save each other.

As for the rest, *shrug* I don't know. Thoughts?

Tabulsa Rasa - Friday

So it seems that actually watching SGA live for the next few weeks is going to be downright impossible for me. I know, I know. I shouldn't be complaining because of the fun stuff I will be doing, but still. I really want to watch the episodes. Like now.

Take this Friday's "Tabula Rasa." Come on. This is like fanfiction going canon. Amnesia fic! *sigh* Instead of watching live I'll be at the Police concert at MSG. I know, I know. I should stop complaining. The DVR will catch it and knowing me I'll watch it as soon as I step in the door.

Anyway. For all those of you who CAN watch it live. Do it! Friday @ 10 PM. SGA's "Tabulsa Rasa" is on and from the promos it looks great.

Travelers on Friday

So, event hough I'm heading down to Orlando for work, I'm REALLY hoping I'll be able to watch Travelers live on Friday. It all depends upon whether or not the hotel carries SciFi. That's a big maybe. Just in case, the DVR will pick it up for me to watch when I get home Saturday night...unless I watch it on iTunes on the plane home and then watch it from the DVR...decisions, decisions.

So, in any case, even if I can't watch Travelers on Friday, make sure you tune in live to watch it. Remember: 10 /9C PM on SciFi.

As promised, I said I was going to start updating this Blog a little more often. Granted, I'm going to start traveling again, so all bets are off as to how regular these updates will be.

So, why not start with the beginning of Atlantis Season Four?

I was really, really looking forward to the new season. Between DH and JM and their blogs and pictures and such, I wanted the new season to be here immediately. I was worried about the late start—and the fact that SGA was beginning at the same time as ALL the fall network shows.

So, Adrift.

Stargate Atlantis 4x01: Adrift

I actually managed to get my hands on the leaked versions of both Adrift and Lifeline and I have to say that even without the sound effects the episodes were amazing! (Although the sound effects really add to the whole atmosphere in a way that I hadn't really considered before.) I mean, I knew it played a huge role, but I guess I never realized how much we rely on the music track or the sound effects to tell us how things are going/what's happening.

It was actually really weird—but interesting—to see it both ways.

Highlights:

McKay just going...trying to fix everything but also delegating to Chuck and Zelenka and others. Rodney finally calling Sheppard "John".

Sheppard taking charge, albeit reluctantly.

Sheppard's reaction to Keller's news about Elizabeth, the quiet desperation and the near tears as he tries to be strong.

Also, Rodney fixing Elizabeth against John's orders and the argument/tension between the two of them...and Rodney's apology.

Rodney in the jumper. He can fly really well! And while he might not have been good at Asteroids, he was pretty good now when it counted.

Oh! John throwing Zelenka across the gaping hole in Atlantis. Very cool shot. But oddly it reminded me of LotR's dwarf-tossing moment. *shrug* Odd, I know.

There was just some great dialogue and drama throughout. A great way to start the season.

Favorite lines:

SHEPPARD: If you dumb this down any more, you’re gonna get hit.

McKAY: Well, that – that’s fantastic!
ZELENKA: Yes! Yeah, I *thought* you’d be happy.
McKAY: Happy?! There’s actually a chance we might make it through this thing! I am ecstatic! I am gonna do a little ...
CHUCK (over radio): Colonel Sheppard, Doctor McKay. Please report to the Control Room immediately.
McKAY: That lasted, what, like, a second?

McKAY: Looks like the old video game, Asteroids.
SHEPPARD: Well, whatever works for you.
McKAY: I was *terrible* at Asteroids. I think I actually scored zero once.
SHEPPARD: Well, there’s only one way to go, and that’s up.

Hello again

Well, it's been more than a year since I updated over here, but I figured it's probably about time I started keeping up with episode reviews and such. I plan to do SGA S4 within the next week or so. I'm actually enjoying the new season so far. I"m still a little worried about the inclusion of Carter, but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and I have to say I'm enjoying Keller as the new doctor. I didn't think I would.

I'm also an MGM "Official Stargate Team Member" so you're going to see posts here each week supporting that. They'll be short and I'll try to include some commentary where possible. So, just a heads up.

Things this year have been...hectic. I'm traveling a lot and there's been some health issues in the family (Dad's stroke in March, my stomach issue has come back). And then, let's not talk about the ork issues. Things have not been easy, that's for sure.

But there have been some highlights. I was hugged by David Hewlett (and he remembered me ack! And Jane can pick me out of a crowd, which is scary). Paul McGillian wouldn't let go of me when he met me. David Nykl has a horrible sense of style at times, but is amazingly funny. Kate thought Steph and I went to college with her. Aaron Douglas is crazy (but fun). Chuck Campbell rocks!

I'm going to Europe on vacation in a few weeks with my best friend and I am SO looking forward to it.

So, a few posts will follow for the Team Stargate thing. Just a friendly warning...

That's not supposed to happen here

Whenever we talk about bad things happening, a lot of times it feels like it always happens to other people in other places far removed from you. It's always someone else, somewhere else. You hear about it, make the appropriate sad noises you're supposed to make when you hear of it, and then you move on.

Last week, while it was still someone else the somewhere else had come home to roost. Last week, in the middle of the afternoon in a perfectly safe and tranquil suburban neighborhood with families and kids, there was a drive-by shooting at the house next door to mine.

That's not supposed to happen here.

Has the neighborhood changed? Apparently more than I though it had.

It just got me thinking about things that I take for granted—like my safety in my own house and on my own block. While I'm grateful that no one was hurt in the whole incident, the face that one of the four bullets that hit the house next door ended up going through a wall, into the fridge, and then into the bedroom of the downstairs apartment.

If they'd actually been home at the time someone could have gotten hurt, badly hurt. And it was only a few yards away from my den!

I mean, I can always think back to the winter when someone decided that my car was a good target for a baseball bat—and one broken rear window later—but that was a random act of violence. It had been happening in several communities, cities, towns. It wasn't just at home. My car was just one hapless victim.

But a drive-by shooting is a tad bit more personal, don't you think?

So, am I more observant? Oh yeah. Do I hurry inside just in case? Yes. Do I wonder when it will happen again? Most definitely.

But the fact that I have to worry makes me sad. It used to be such a nice place to live.

Decisions

I've been doing some thinking again this week. I know, that's probably not the best idea, but it happens.

It started the other night when I had the opportunity to go to the US Open thanks to a colleague at work to managed to get his hands on some tickets. It would be kinda work, but much more fun than a normal day that's for sure. But, it was a nasty day. Raining on and off, with more rain forecast for the rest of the night. (And yes, I think an ark might be in order since Ernesto is blowing through here tonight/tomorrow.)

To go or not to go. That was the question.

There were pros and cons on either side, but I finally decided not to go in because of the possibility that there wouldn't be any tennis (and driving in and hour plus to see some new products just to turn around and go home) was not a fun way to spend a night.

For once in my life, I made the right decision. They ended up canceling the match because of the weather, so I was glad I didn't head into Queens in the rain, fighting traffic and stupid drivers and the usual fun situations you encounter at any kind of mass gather of humanoids.

But then, this got me thinking about the decisions I make, have made. We've all heard the question: if you could change anything, would you? The general cliched response is "of course not!" But I think in my case I would have, several times. And that made me wonder where I might be or what I might be doing had I decided some other course of action.

Had I taken that job in the city eight years ago, would I still be there? Doubtful, because the special magazine section was discontinued, but where else might I be working? Doing? Visiting? Traveling? Would I have seen or done half the things I've managed to?

Sometimes I just wish I could re-do everything, start from scratch and see if I can get it right this time around. I guess that's why I like writing: I can tweak it and change it until it seems right, even though it's far from perfect. But then, there's other things in my life that I would never change, even though they brought pain in the end.

I guess that's part of life, isn't it? :: sigh ::

I should probably not post when I'm half asleep and starting to think again. I apologize for the ramble, but I had no SGA to distract me tonight, it's raining ourside, and there's classicial music playing in iTunes. That's my only excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Blogs and musings

Yes, I know. I haven't updated this in a long while. Actually, it's probably because I haven't had much to say. Why just prattle on if you have nothing to say? ...Okay, well, maybe I do that.

Anyway, apart from seriously considering constructing the ark from the plans I had made up from the last time it poured and rained for days on end, I wanted to share two blogs with you.

As you know, I'm a huge David Hewlett fan and was pleasantly surprised when he decided to enter the world of blogging by setting up his own blog. Check it out here. I have to say that I'm enjoying it immensely—partially because it's David (duh!) but also because it's fun to see things through his eyes (or at least how he's looking at things at this particular point in time).

His sister, Kate, just started a blog this past weekend (which David was nice enough to link to from his). You can find it here, but make sure you check out the first post especially. Although the one about her roomates is fun too. The first post, though, contains a short comment from David (H0rrid), which to me is perfectly brother-like and had be laughing this morning. Granted, I don't have a brother, but if I did this was how I picture he would act in a strange, round-about way. Hey, Toni agreed with me! So it's not just my crazy ramblings...

I guess it's funny in a way. Intellectually you know that actors have families, but because you always see them on television playing their characters, you tend to forget it. It's actually really nice to see that they're normal people. But of course, anytime I meet an actor I manage to clam up. Writing is so much easier, but scribbling notes on a pad to flash at "someone famous" really wouldn't work. And besides, I really don't need to look more like a dorky fangirl than I already am.

If I can get my motivation up, I'll try to post about the last few episodes of SGA. I just have to get in the mood (and the habit again) of posting on here.

I have been writing though. Finally finished my first big fic in the SGA universe (Of Duty, Atonement, and Redemption) and I'm posting in parts on my website and fanfiction. If you get the urge to read it you can go here or here. In the middle of my myth fic-a-thon fic. Should hopefully finish it in time. I'm trying. And then there's VS9 stuff that I need to write...

Oh well. It'll get done.

SGA 3x01 - No Man's Land initial thoughts

So....can I mention that I'm very happy that the new season has started? All new episodes where I can stare at Rodney is a good thing.

A few notes...thoughts...if you don't want to be spoiled, I'd stop reading now...

Good episode overall. I'll watch it again this weekend I imagine and give you my final answer then. I love the fact that this is episode four in a five-episode arc (at least as far as I can tell at this point).

Rodney downloads porn....eh...music. Yeah, music, where he gets those spyware programs. You have to love his speak first, think/self-edit later mentality. For someone who works in top secret facilities on classified projects, he does know how to keep a secret, but for some reason he tends to be very honest about himself verging into TMI territory. Not that I mind, but it sure is amusing.

Lorne and Zelenka...those two rock. I'm liking the secondary characters just as much as the primary ones and I'm hoping that the writers make good use of them throughout. But Lorne captaining his own ship with Zelenka running around fixing things so it doesn't come crashing down around them is great.

Ronon and Rodney...I have to say that the two of them were very funny together in this episode. They are such opposites, and they play off each other very well. My only question: where exactly was that knife?

Elizabeth...I like her being strong and standing up for her actions and her decisions. Always nice to see Walter.

John and his Kirk complex...amusing that he finally realized that he needs to listen to Rodney and Radek more when they're talking science stuff instead of staring at the brunette at the other table. And then, of course, there was Mission This is Going to End Badly. Oh...and we also have Sheppard playing "mom" with the "Because I said so" line. If that's not a mom line, than I'm not sure what kind of mom you had.

And special effects for the ep were great. Poor Orion though. Why is it that they always nearly destroy or totally destroy the cool ships they get/borrow?

And on a personal note: it seems like the DVR worked like a charm (woohoo). Now to figure out how to edit and make DVDs. That's for another day though.
