Rediscovering Stargate

It's kind of funny, but I think I've fallen out of love with Stargate.

Perhaps an explanation might be in order.

I've been a fan of Stargate SG-1 for years, since nearly the beginning. I love the whole premise behind the movie and the series (and Richard Dean Anderson of course...that goes without saying). I used to watch it religiously every week, even spending horrible amounts of money to make sure I got Showtime so I could watch every Friday night. I was a happy camper when it finally wandered over to SciFi. It would save me some cash and I could still watch the crew every day.

And then they made SGA, which I absolutely love.

But, ever since Jack O'Neill as a character moved up (to General and then to Washington) there's just something missing and my attention span has continued to wane until I discovered that I was no longer a fan of Stargate SG-1 (at least the new version of it that started with season nine) and that I had stopped watching the program. Instead, my obsession had moved to a rather cranky scientist with an ego the size of outter Mongolia who just happened to live in a nice little city in the Pegasus Galaxy.

So, tonight, since I finally have the television to myself I decided to watch Stargate Monday and I realized something. Sitting here watching "Solitudes" I realized that this was the show and the team that I fell in love with all those years ago. It makes me want to pick up the DVD sets I own and start everything right from the beginning.

The early years of Stargate really rocked!

I think I may have re-discovered the show and the characters I loved to follow through the gate week after week, the ones I loved to write stories about.

It might be time to dig out those DVDs after all.

Yes! It's strange, but those early episodes are what drew me into the series in the first placec and I'd hate to lose the whole "love of Stargate" because of some stupid cast changes. Oh wait...that already happened.

But maybe I can love the older episodes again.

Yeah, don't give up on them completely! Digging them out again and rediscovering the old characters (and seeing how they all developed) all over again may be just what you need!
